Curriculum

The course consists of 4 modules totaling 16 hours. The course is taught through live classes over a period of 4 weeks.

Those who complete this course with at least 75% of attendance will be awarded a digital certificate of 16 hours of Expert in Money Laundering Prevention issued by Washington & Lincoln University.

Module I: General Overview of Money Laundering

  • Origin of money laundering.
  • Historical evolution of money laundering in Brazilian legislation and its current classification.
  • Overview of the national anti-money laundering system: prevention; repression and asset recovery.
  • Macroeconomic effects of money laundering.

Module II: Law 9613 – Criminal Aspects of the Money Laundering Law

  • Legal interest protected.
  • Analysis of the criminal offense: principal and equivalent offenses.
  • Subjective element; intent and the theory of willful blindness.
  • Main typologies of money laundering: main methods used and modus operandi, front organizations, tax havens, offshore companies.

Module III: Procedural Aspects of the Law and Asset Recovery

  • International legal cooperation.

Module IV: Administrative Duties under the Money Laundering Law

  • Obligated parties.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Compliance and administrative responsibility for "failure."
  • COAF and financial intelligence activity.
  • Responsibilities of the legal entity and its directors.
